Background

Maximus is a striking 59-metre ketch superyacht, built by Vitters Shipyard in the Netherlands with an aluminium hull and superstructure for superior strength and efficiency. Featuring a carbon rig from Southern Spars, Maximus is engineered for both competitive sailing and luxurious cruising. With the dual purpose in mind, their was clear emphasis that the rigging work needed to focus on equipping her from the ground up to maximize her potential in both disciplines.

Scope of the RigPro Package

• Complete Running Rigging Package:
  Supply and installation of all running rigging components, ensuring seamless integration with the vessel’s Southern Spars carbon rig.
• Bespoke Lockstrops and Precision Fittings:
  Custom-designed and manufactured in-house to meet exact specifications for durability, weight savings, and ease of use.  
• Custom ECsix Carbon Cables:
  Incorporation and installation of high-performance continuous carbon fibre cables from Future Fibres, providing superior strength-to-weight ratios and reduced stretch for enhanced sail control.  
• Full Commissioning:
  Leveraging exclusive partnerships with Future Fibres and Southern Spars to oversee the entire rigging setup, calibration, and initial testing.  
• RigPro Care Integration:
  Implementation of advanced tracking and monitoring systems for proactive maintenance, allowing real-time data on rig health to prevent issues and extend service life.
• Performance Optimisation:
  Customized docktune and adjustments to improve the sail handling and regatta performance.

Technical Details & Process

1. Initial Consultation & Design – Collaboration with the owner, German Frers design team, and partners at Future Fibres and Southern Spars to define rigging requirements based on the vessel’s sail plan and performance goals. 
2. Custom Fabrication – In-house production of bespoke lockstrops and precision fittings using high-modulus materials for minimal weight and maximum strength. 
3. Rig Assembly & Installation – On-site assembly, including stepping of the Southern Spars mast and boom package, with commissioning of all running rigging and Future Fibres standing rigging package. 
4. Systems Integration – Calibration of hydraulic and electronic controls, incorporation of sensors for tracking rig loads and sail handling. 
5. Sail Trials – Comprehensive on-water testing, fine-tuning, sail trim, and handling under a range of wind speeds and sea states to confirm optimized performance. 
6. Delivery & Owner Handover – Final walkthrough with the owner and crew, covering system operations, maintenance protocols via RigPro Care, and performance benefits.
